Volánbusz expects to purchase 20 new electric buses next year as a continuation of the Green Bus programme in six smaller cities – said the company.
HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Zrt. is continuing its Green Bus programme to renew public transport and reduce pollutant emissions in order to achieve the country’s 2050 carbon neutrality target, opening up the possibility of electrifying the local fleet to municipalities with less than 25,000 residents.
According to the plans of Volánbusz, if the necessary funds for the development are available, 3 electrically powered, low-floor, local vehicles will be available in Balatonfüred, 1 in Hajdúszoboszlo, 2 in Komárom, 6 in Komló, 5 in Tata and 3 in Várpalota. The additional 20 e-buses will reduce the environmental impact by more than 1000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The fuel supply of buses will be provided by filling stations installed by Mobiliti Volánbusz Kft., a joint venture of MVM Mobiliti Kft. and Volánbusz, at the technical sites or stations of the municipalities.
The transport company plans to sign the contract in January 2024, so that the buses can be in service early next year. The project will allow Volánbusz to expand its electric fleet by 20 percent.
