With almost 400 e- scooters a day in the city, the number of accidents and thefts is minimal. The winter weather has reduced the use of the vehicles. They can be fitted with winter or puncture tyres.
Barely four months have passed since the introduction of the e-scooters in Pécs. And many people are able to use the scooters well. So far, there have been two major accidents, one of which was reported in detail when a little girl was hit by rowdy teenagers at the Education Centre. Following their article on this, the operating company limited speed limits in several areas of the city, exactly where Pécs Actual had suggested.
After the extension of the restricted zones, the vandalism actually stopped, mostly in the area around the Education Centre, where young people jumped off high steps on scooters. There is no damage other than natural deterioration, which means that five per cent of the total fleet of 350 scooters are now being serviced.
Preparations for winter weather have already started, so if the weather turns very bad, they can shut down the fleet immediately.
„Depending on the weather, there are several possibilities. There are ‘socks’ or coatings that can be put on the wheels. There are also studded wheels that can be put on the scooters. I can’t imagine using this in Hungary. But if the weather conditions were so harsh that it would make scootering dangerous, the most likely scenario would be to deactivate the entire fleet so that the scooters could not be used. But if it were very cold or frosty for a long period of time, we might even bring our equipment under the roof to save its condition,” the head of the company operating the e-scooters told Pécs Aktuál.
