It was exactly 100 years ago on Christmas that Ferenc Weisz opened his „urikávéház” on Theatre square!

The café quickly became a favourite place for Pécs people, a place for business meetings and friendly conversations. There was gypsy music, Villány wine, and even Pécs city leaders brought their guests here. The most champagne was drunk here on New Year’s Eve 1930!

The Korzó was the most popular café and restaurant in the city between the two wars.

At first it was just a café, until a hot kitchen was added at the request of the clientele. By Christmas 1923, it opened on the site of a bank office. The furnishings were luxurious, as the Dunántúl newspaper wrote.
