„Our country has also met its destiny. Machine guns are clicking in the streets, squares, homes (and workplaces), children and adults are walking around with blue-green blurs. The machine gun is called a tiki-taki”- wrote the Dunántúli Napló in 1973 about the dangerous toy.
„It’s as widespread as tiki-taki”- the saying went in the 1970s. The game drove the young people of Pécs crazy.
As the local newspaper wrote down the biggest blockbuster was known as ‘tiki-taki’, which won over the young and annoyed the old ones.
There are several versions of its origin
„It was invented to help soothe the nerves of patients in a Connecticut mental hospital, and the fact that it is an ancient Norwegian pastime, and that it has been known in North America, Venezuela, Hong Kong for years, has made it the main attraction of summer and autumn this year.”
In 1982, the sale of the „toy” was forbidden due to a series of accidents, but it was still used for a long time by young people, who could be identified by their patched or blue-purple spotted wrists. The toy is still available today, with a few examples on second-hand websites.
